I’ve been tagged several times to list 5 things people don’t know about me. I tend to resist anytime I’m tagged but since Valentine’s Day is around the corner I thought it would be a great time to get to know each other better.

5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me

1) I have an insanely strong sense of smell: I can smell what the guy four treadmills down from me had for breakfast and what cologne he wore on his date last night. Becausemy smelling senses are sostrong, it can make small spaces like cars and airplanes almost unbearable. If I have to cook something in the crock-pot, I put it in the garage becauseotherwise the smell wakes meup all night long (even though my bedroom’s upstairs and the kitchen is downstairs).I think that’s also why I love food so much – because I can smell anything cooking within a one mile radius.

2) I’m the youngest of 10 kids and have 38 nieces and nephews.

3) I always sleep with my hair down and never on my stomach. Growing up my sisters told me that my hair would fall out if I slept in a ponytail and that I would be flat if I slept on my stomach.

4) My pet peeve is when people don’t look you in the eye when they are talking to you.

5) I remember everything. This was really true until I had kids and now my skill isn’t as sharp. I remember names from 20 years ago, what I was eating at almost any major or unmajor event, and birthdays. Sometimes I have to pretend that I remember less than I do, because in my experience it freaks people out when you know too much. I like to learn and that extends into learning things about everyone.

You already know I have a weakness for cookie dough. I’ve made this recipe for cookie dough frosting several times now. I got it from Sally’s Baking Addiction and everything from her siteis good! My husband told to me to get rid of any other versions of this I might already have because this one is spot on. He’s been asked for the recipe many timesso he asked if I could finally post it. Don’t worry, it’s egg-less.

The flavors of cookie dough in a wonderfully fluffy frosting.

PrintPinRate

Prep Time: 10 minutes mins

Total Time: 10 minutes mins

Servings: 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, softened to room temp
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • With a mixer, cream together the butter and sugar at medium speed. Add the vanilla and beat well. Add the flour and salt and mix until combined. Add the milk gradually until desired consistency is reached and beat until fluffy. Gently fold in chocolate chips. Frost cooled cupcakes. I like mine thick so I kind of spoon is on. Store in refrigerator.

Notes

Add less milk for a cookie dough to snack on or add more milk to make it into a dip!

    This is just cookie dough?

    • Christy Denney Reply

      Nope it’s a little thinner

  2. Sandy Reply

You really need to let people know that the flour in this cookie dough frosting needs to be baked or microwaved then cooled. Eating raw flour is very dangerous!! Otherwise you are spot on, it is great tasting frosting

  3. Kira Reply

This is the best cookie dough frosting I have come across. Easy to make & tastes good!

  4. Tracey Baumgarten Reply

If you are concerned about consuming raw flour, toast it before using. Spread the flour in a single layer on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 5 minutes at 350 degrees. It will kill any bacteria present and adds a little nutty flavor. Enjoy!

  5. April Reply

Can you make without chocolate chips?

  6. Donna Dunaway Reply

The cookie dough frosting ingredients did not call for flour, but directions did ???

    • Christy Denney Reply

I see the flour in the ingredient list?

  7. S Das Reply

    This recipe is very wonderful!
    Love this post!

  8. Sumit Sulta Reply

    WOW!! Excellent recipe & nicefrosting.

  9. Ellen Johnson Reply

Oh my goodness!!! The raw flour comments are making me crazy. Of all people to listen to the FDA is probably at the bottom of the list. The FDA also lists cornflakes as a health food. Seriously government propaganda at its best.

This frosting is delish, and as a pastry chef who eats raw flour almost daily I would have died years ago if it were dangerous. Keep on going on, this recipe rocks just as it is!

    • Christy Denney Reply

Thank you for having my back!!

  10. Kal Reply

I know this is a very old post but I love this recipe and wanted to remind you it exists.

It’s a sad day that the FDA has now advised against cookie dough. Not because of raw eggs but because of the flour, which you have in this recipe.

Might be worth updating to inform people of this new info.

    • Christy Denney Reply

I agree. However if raw flour kills me then I guess it was my time to go.

      • Mary Kathryn Reply

I agree!! Cant wait to try this recipe! I tried a cookie dough recipe with “heat treated flour” and it was TERRIBLE

  11. Heather Reply

Made this icing for my cupcakes everyone loved them!!

  12. Ali Bauer Reply

This frosting is absolutely fantastic!! Tried it out for a birthday party and everyone loved it!! Thank you Christy!

    • Christy Denney Reply

      You’re welcome!

  13. Courtney Reply

I just made these! I cut the recipe exactly in half and used vanilla soy instead of regular milk, and I must say… it’s DELICIOUS!!! I might have liked it thicker, so I recommend slightly less than 2tbs for others who only want to ice 6 cupcakes. I stuck my icing in the fridge to harden a bit, so it should be fine.
Now the challenge is- how long can I wait before running to the fridge and eating it all? 😛

    • Christy Denney Reply

      It’s good right>?!

  14. Lexi And Emily Reply

My best friend and i just made this… not for a frosting but to eat! We followed the recipe exactly and added about 6 tablespoons of milk, and got the most creamy consistency. We haven’t dug into it yet, but put it in the fridge while we clean up the mess! this is by far yummy, and were surprised that it did not use eggs. the consistency is a little bit weird but it is the best recipe that we have tried.

    • Christy Denney Reply

Thank you! I’m glad you agree!

  15. Jennifer Howard Reply

LOVED this recipe!! I put it on chocolate cupcakes and took it to a birthday party at school. After assuring everyone that it was eggless cookie dough and completely safe, the kids devoured them and requested that I make them again soon. My only problem was getting it on the cupcakes since it was not spreadable like most frosting. Thanks for sharing!!

    • Christy Denney Reply

Yes, you kind of have to mold it on there unless you add more milk then it’s more spreadable.

  16. Priya Reply

    Hi,
Has anyone used this icing and mixed it into vanilla ice cream to make cookie dough ice cream?

  17. Kaylin Reply

aMAZing! We used it on a cake but that didn’t make any difference! It was delicious!

  18. ML White Reply

Amazing! Just made this icing with my 4 year old. It’s absolutely yummy. Icing is so silky and spot on flavor of cookie dough.

  19. yula Reply

Hi i just want to ask if the flour u used us raw.thanks!

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Yes, it is.

  20. George Reply

Raw flour carries more bacteria than raw eggs. This recipe is not safe to eat.

  21. Casey Reply

AWESOME!! I love the flour taste of cookie dough. The recipe is perfect! A definate keeper.

  22. Chris Reply

Not impressed with this recipe at all.. I was skeptical about it at first knowing it had flour in it but I went and tried it anyway. Just as suspected.. It tastes like raw flour and milk. Maybe try it with powdered sugar instead and update us. The recipe as is gets a no go.

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Chris,
Sorry you didn’t like it. Guess we all have different tastebuds. I guess from my point of view cookie dough itself has a flour taste so it was spot on.

  23. Jenna Reply

This was SO GOOD. I topped it on some dark chocolate cupcakes. Heaven in my mouth, girl!

  24. Liza Reply

Hi! How long can this frosting last outside the fridge? Also, can I substitute the milk with water? Am trying to courier these to a friend in another state, so trying to ensure that the frosting will not go bad during shipment. Any tips are appreciated. Thank you!

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Liza,
Ooh that’s a tricky one. I don’t see anything that would go bad outside the fridge so I think it would be fine since sugar acts as a preserver too. Especially since you are replacing the milk with water. I can’t be sure though since I’ve never done it.

  25. Olivia Reply

For those worried about the flour, I would just put it in the microwave to kill the bacteria (if there is any) before using it.

  26. Juliann Reply

Honestly this can be fatal. Eating uncooked flour can kill you. You have more of a chance of getting sick from eating uncooked flour than you do raw eggs. Just be careful

    • julianna Reply

Maybe you could try with some almond flour? I might change the taste a little, but provides the consistency needed for the frosting?

  27. Jeannine Reply

Well, I thought we were similar until I got to Number Four.

    4) My pet peeve is when people don’t look you in the eye when they are talking to you.

As someone under the Autism spectrum, I physically feel ill/stressed/upset when forced to look someone in the eyes while talking.
Let’s just hope you don’t meet too many people with Autism…

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Jeannine,
Oh no. That doesn’t bother me. I’m very sensitive to those with autism since I have a niece that has it. My husband is guilty of doing it:)

  28. lily Reply

Just made it and it was amazing! This is my third different cookie dough frosting and definitely the best! I’m putting it on brownies for my husband’s birthday 🙂 thank you so much!

  29. Mrs Helpful Reply

this looks AMAZING! mind if i borrow it for my site? i will, of course, mention you and give a link to your site!

I needed to double this recipe and didn’t have enough butter so I used half butter, half peanut butter to make PB Chip Cookie Dough and it rocked!

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Yum. What a great variation.

  31. Erin Reply

I really like the idea for cookie dough frosting, and those cupcakes are super cute. But raw flour?! Nasty!!! Also, raw flour carries a higher risk of salmonella and illness than raw eggs do. I think a nut flour would be better with the added benefit of being gluten free. But thank you for the inspiration and the recipe!

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

Nut flour is a great idea. I know the raw flour is controversial but I’ve eaten so much cookie dough over my lifetime I might have an immunity to anything that could be harmful. Thank you for your comment. It was very respectful and informative.

  32. Julia Reply

I have to tell you I made this and I was a little hesitant to try it after seeing the ingrediants because it was so different from the other cookie dough recipe I used before. But I made it for my birthday and it was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing it, everyone loved with it. I ended up sending an extra piece home with everyone

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Julie,
      So glad to hear that!

  33. Ashley Reply

This frosting looks incredible! I have never heard of cookie dough frosting before. Making it now!! 🙂

  34. Emma Reply

    How much does this make?!

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

Emma, This makes enough to frost about 12 cupcakes.

  35. JJ Reply

uh oh… i added too much milk! is there anything i can do to save it? :O

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      JJ,
      Shoot. Maybe more flour?

  36. Henriette Reply

This sounds very dangerous for my hips! I will definitely try this, I absolutely love cookie dough!
And for #5 of things that people don’t know about you, I can totally understand what you mean, it always freaks out people when you still remember their name and details about their life!

  37. Karen Reply

Thank you for sharing your recipe. My family and I all love cookie dough. We’ve even bought cookie dough fudge from Callie’s Candy Kitchen in the Poconos- it tastes just like homemade cookie dough!

  38. Audrey Reply

This frosting is DELICIOUS!!! I made it to go on chocolate cupcakes for Belle’s YW activity this weekend and the girls (and moms) LOVED it! Thanks!

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

Good! I was so excited to see your comment!

  39. Kelly Reply

This recipe looks so yummy! I am going to make it tonight. So when you say to store in fridge, do you mean after the cupcakes are frosted, you store the cupcakes in the fridge? Or do you mean just store the frosting in the fridge if you are going to use it at another time? I didn’t know if the cupcakes would be ok overnight on the counter after being frosted if I am going to serve them the next day. Thank you 🙂

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Kelly,
I personally think they would be fine left out overnight but since there’s milk in them I think technically you’re supposed to refrigerate.

  40. Sam Reply

    Hi,
you posted this recipe for a frosting as well https://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2011/02/chocolate-chip-cookie-dough-cupcakes.html < which calls for confectioner's sugar and less flour e and 1 tbsp more of milk. Do you have a preference between the two?

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Yes, I prefer this one…

  41. Alison Reply

Have you tried substituting some shortening for some of the butter to make it more heat safe….like for outdoor parties in summertime? Do you know how much you would substitute?

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Alison,
I haven’t tried that but I’m sure it would work. I wouldn’t know how much to substitute though.

  42. Tammy Reply

I made this this weekend and put it on chocolate cupcakes. My 6 year old couldn’t keep her fingers out of it. It was the BOMB. Definite keeper!

  43. Minna Reply

I JUST made it. Tastes oh so good, but personally I can taste the raw flour. What could it be?

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      @Minna,
I think the flour taste is what cookie dough is all about. It may not be for everyone but I like it.

      • Minna Reply

Oh I see I thought I did something wrong.

  44. Chandra@The Plaid and Paisley Kitchen Reply

What?! This is the best frosting I have ever seen!! Oh you can bet I am going to make and enjoy the heck out of this!!!

Cookie dough has to be one of the best things in life! I’m so making this!

  55. Ginger Reply

    Wow! That frosting looks delicious!
I know lots of people share your pet peeve #4, but having a son with aspergers, which is on the autism spectrum, makes me realize that there could be psycho social reasons some people don’t look you in the eye. For my son, it is extremely hard to look people in the eye, even after years of training and reminding. Just something that is a little different in his brain than the average person.

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Ginger,
Thank you for that reminder. My niece has aspergers so I’m sensitive to that as well. My husband has no excuse 🙂

  56. Kristy Reply

Umm, yeah this looks amazing. All of Sally’s stuff looks so good. I didn’t know #3 or #4!

  57. Tracy Reply

Christy..the icing sounds delicious but is it really 1 1/4 cups of fllour? I don’t think I’ve ever put flour in icing before!

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} Reply

      Tracy,
Yep it is. And it’s fabulous!

oh this sounds amazing – will have to try it out 🙂
I already have the ingredients…how convenient!

I’m one of 7 kids, but only 2 nieces – my brothers and sisters need to get a move on!

  60. Mindy Reply

Well this one is definitely goin’ on the to-make list. Yum!
I love random tidbit posts. I do one every month or so and they always get the most feedback. The blog world is so crazy and there are SO many people, the sneak peaks into someone’s real life make them easier to connect and relate to.
And holy crap, 10 kids!!!??? Wow, I had no idea. Seeee, random tidbit.
I wear my hair up all day long every day. It looks weird to me when it’s down at this point. But I ALWAYS take it down to go to bed.
My fifth grade teacher hated it when students didn’t look him in the eye when speaking to him and I’ll always remember that. I’ve made a conscious effort to do it ever since.
Thanks for the recipe – it’s goin’ on the short list.

GAWD! This looks SO GOOD! Thanks for the recipe! And yeah, I’m like you in that I can smell everything! Cripes! It’s great sometimes, but we seem to live in skunk territory, and I’m constantly dealing with that! Ugh! And yikes!….the youngest of 10! That’s amazing! What fun you must have had growing up!

  63. Sarah Reply

This looks so good! Also your number 5 is also me. Down to not letting on to how much I remember because yes, it totally freaks people out. I remember dates, events, people, etc. but I always forget to grab my lunch before I leave the house for work. My short term memory suffers from my insane long term memory I think.
