This easy peach cobbler cake needs just three ingredients! Yellow cake mix, a large can of peaches, and a stick of butter, that's it! I've been told this is a dump recipe in some parts of the country. Whatever you call it, this three-ingredient peach dump cake is good!

Ingredients

These are simple, inexpensive ingredients that you may already have at home!

3 Ingredient Peach Cobbler (3)
  • Yellow Cake Mix - I like using Betty Crocker but if you have a favorite brand, go ahead and use it. This recipe is made with a cake mix that contains 15.25 oz.
  • Large can of sliced peaches - I try to buy the ones in juice rather than syrup. But, use what you have or buy what you like.
  • One Stick of Butter - Traditionally, unsalted butter is used when baking. However, I normally have salted butter at home, so that's what I use.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Spray a 13 x 9 inch baking dish with nonstick spray.

Step 1
Dump a can of peaches into the casserole dish. I cut a few of the thicker ones in half. But you don't have to - keep it easy!

Step 2
Pour the dry cake mix evenly on top of the peaches. Smooth it gently with a knife (or a spoon, or a fork, or your fingers....) DON'T MIX IT. It should be like the picture below.

Step 3
Slice the butter into thin slices and then spread it evenly on the cake mix.
Butter Slicing Hint - Slice butter when cold and slice the thinest pieces you can to get the most coverage. It's OK if not every piece of butter is perfect, some of mine are pieced together.

Step 4
You are finished with your prep! Now put it in the oven to bake for 30-40 minutes. You want it to be bubbly and the crust to be a golden brown. It smells so good!

Serving Suggestions

Allow to cool for 10 minutes. Then scoop portions with a large spoon. My family and friends enjoy having a scoop of vanilla ice cream on their peach cobbler.

Storage

This refrigerates well for up to 4 days as long as it is in a covered container or the dish it is baked in is covered.
It may be frozen for up to 3 months if well wrapped. However, since this is such a quick and easy recipe, I would recommend making it the day you need it and if you have extra, invite some friends over!

Equipment

  • 1 13 x 9 baking dish

Ingredients

  • 1 box Yellow cake mix I use Betty Crocker but use what you have.
  • 1 can Peaches Large 29 oz size, I use the ones with juice but you can use the ones with syrop.
  • ½ cup butter 1 cold stick butter sliced very thinly.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit.

  • I use nonstick spray on my casserole dish because it makes cleaning it later easier. And the whole point of this recipe is to keep it easy.

  • Dump can of peaches into the casserole dish. With every delicious drop of juice! I cut a few of the thicker ones in half butyou don’t have to.

  • Pour the dry cake mix on top. Straight from the box! Smooth it gently with a knife (or a spoon, or a fork or your fingers….)

    DON’T MIX IT. Yes, it is dry and powdery on top of the peaches but when baked, the butter on top fixes that!

  • Cut the butter into thin slices (easier if butter is cold) and then spread it evenly on the cake mix.

  • You are done your prep.! Now put it in the oven for 30-40 minutes. You want it to be bubbly and the crust to be a golden brown. And it smells sooooo good!

  • Let it sit 10 minutes, then serve with vanilla ice cream.

    Did you cover the top of the cake mix with thinly sliced butter? That, plus some of the juice from the peaches underneath, are what moistens the batter.

      If the butter isn't sliced really thin and spread well, sometimes there are dry cake spots on top. If that happens, the easiest thing to do is just spray some cooking (or baking) spray on the dry spots and put it in the oven for 3 or 4 minutes. It still tastes amazing!

    Made the peach cobbler today, added an extra 15 ounce can of peaches, I drained the juice. Was very yummy, quick and easy. I will definitely make again. Delicious with cool whip on top.

    I made this for Thanksgiving this year and it was a huge hit! The only issue I ran into was that the spots between the butter were still flour-ey around the 30 minute mark, so I just chopped up a little bit more butter and put it anywhere that looked dry. Worked like a charm and was delicious!

    I've been making it a little different, & we love it, I mix cake mix with 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts, melt butter & mix together, then crumble over top of peaches it's so awesome, no dry gritty cake mix , try it you will love it .

    Well, since I had a Bundt cake pan from my Christmas fruit cake baking, I thought I'd see what happened if I made it in that pan. I dont know whether the peaches migrate to the top. If they dont and I turn it out on a shallow platter and all of them look like a "peach upside down cake", it would be just as good and also an interesting take on the pineapple version.     Every time I try making this, not all of the cake mix cooks. So when you cut into it, you can actually see the cake mix in some spots. Not bad, still tastes delicious. Any ideas on how to fix that or does it do that for you too?? I think I’m cooking it long enough, the top is completely golden. Maybe more butter?

      Make sure you are spreading the cake mix evenly. Perhaps even use a strainer and break up the lumps. Sometimes it happens when the cake mix is 'lumpy'. Basically, the cake mix needs to be able to absorb the butter and the liquid from the canned peaches.
